Perth Suburbs and Areas to Explore
Getting to Know Perth:
The Nicest Perth Suburbs, and the Most Interesting City Areas for Travellers
The liveliest, most interesting Perth suburbs and those with the most charm and character are the older areas close to the city centre. The historic old towns of Fremantle and Guildford that have long since been enveloped by the ever-expanding city are also worth visiting.
These are the Perth suburbs where you'll find the majority of the city's nightlife, restaurants, pubs, museums, boutique shopping and tourist attractions.
Fremantle in particular has a wonderful uniqueness about it and is a fantastic place to visit.
And then there are Perth's western suburbs - nestled in between Fremantle, the Swan River, the Ocean, Kings Park and the inner city suburb of Subiaco. The western suburbs are a good choice for holiday accommodation in Perth because they are central to the best of Perth's attractions and things to do.
Perth's Sea of Suburbia
The outer suburbs won't be of much interest to most visitors to Perth city. For the most part they're rather monotonous brick-and-tile housing estates with large shopping malls in place of the lively and unique main streets that give character to the older suburbs.
There are, however, plenty of beautiful parks, lakes and picnic areas, plus a few tourist attractions, to visit scattered throughout these areas. If you live in Perth or are sticking around for a while, then you might enjoy checking out the following places:
Perth Northern Suburbs:
- Herdsman Lakes, Wembley
- Bold Park and Perry Lakes
- Whiteman Park
- The old buildings of Guildford and Midland
- Hillarys Boat Harbour
- Aqua (Perth's Aquarium)
Perth Suburbs South of the River
- Adventure World Perth
- Point Walter
- Blackwall Reach
- RAAF Aviation Heritage Museum
